Fulda loses despite great fight
TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell had a hot battle with TTC Neu-Ulm. But in the end, newcomer Yun-ju Lin was too strong. At the end of the 7th match day in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), Fulda Neu-Ulm lost 1:3.
For the 2nd time, playoff candidate Neu-Ulm competed with Taiwanese Yun-ju Lin in the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL). After coming up empty against Timo Boll two weeks ago, he led his team to success against Fulda-Maberzell. With wins against Quadri Aruna and Ruwen Filus, he contributed two individual victories to the overall result.
But 1st it was the hosts who played strongly. Ruwen Filus dominated the match against Maksim Grebnev. The defender dominated the match and did not let the Russian come into the match. With three clear set wins, Filus put his team 1:0 in the lead.
Yun-ju Lin ends Fulda's strong start to the match
In the 2nd singles match, things seemed to continue going well for Fulda at 1st. Quadri Aruna also showed a performance worth seeing and won the 1st set against Lin. But as the match progressed, the left-hander from Neu-Ulm took over. He decided the duel, which was characterized by many long rallies, with 3:1 in his favor.
He later defeated Ruwen Filus with the same result. Again, both players showed a strong performance. Filus was able to come back from a 0:1 set deficit, but he could not carry the momentum. It was Lin who raised his fists in the air after winning two more sets and was happy about his team's victory. Earlier, Vladimir Sidorenko had put the guests from Neu-Ulm in the lead. He defeated a weak Fan Bo Meng with 3:0.
Neu-Ulm receives promoted team, Fulda hosts record champion
Filus said after the game that his team was disappointed despite the great fight. And yet he was not entirely dissatisfied. "We didn't take the chances, but overall, I think we improved compared to the last games. Now we want to keep fighting the next games."
For the time being, however, Fulda remains in the bottom of the table, but can go into the next games with self-confidence after this match, even though a big challenge awaits on Sunday with the guest game at record champion Borussia Düsseldorf. TTC Neu-Ulm, on the other hand, who had won their ticket for the Final Four in the Cup the day before, remain on course for a playoff in the TTBL after this victory. On Saturday, they welcome the promoted team from Mainz.
