FOURTH WIN OF THE SEASON: SAARBRÜCKEN ALSO WINS IN GRENZAU
1.FC Saarbrücken TT has also won its fourth match of the season in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL): With a 3:1 win at TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau on Monday evening, the reigning runners-up moved past Borussia Düsseldorf again and returned to the top of the table.
1.FC Saarbrücken TT had lost just one single match on the first three match days of the new season of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), and the Saarland team was also in excellent form on match day 4. The FCS won 3:1 at TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau and thus celebrated its fourth victory in the fourth match, which returned the team to first place. With now 8:0 points, Saarbrücken is once again ahead of their long-term rivals Borussia Düsseldorf, who won 3:0 at TSV Bad Königshofen on Saturday.
The opening single went to the hosts, Feng Yi-Hsin defeated Cedric Nuytinck 3:2 (8:11, 11:7, 11:6, 6:11, 11:7). However, Grenzau were not able to do more. That was partly due to Darko Jorgic, who first equalized the match with his 3:1 (11:5, 4:11, 11:8, 11:6) against Maciej Kubik and a little later with his 3:1 (11:7, 11:7, 7:11, 11:7) against Feng. And secondly to Yuto Muramatsu, who showed his best side on his debut in an FCS jersey, played with nerves of steel against Samuel Walker and prevailed 3:0 (11:9, 12:10, 12:10) to take an interim 2:1 lead.
Cup round of 16 on Wednesday and Friday
"Feng played well and gave his all again, especially at the end," said Jorgic after the game and the Man of the Match award. "He could have made it 2:2, and then you never know what will happen. Overall, though, I played well and also had luck on my side at the important moments."
The next games for Grenzau and Saarbrücken are just a few days away. In the round of 16 of the German Table Tennis Cup, TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau will face TTC indeland Jülich next Wednesday, September 27. Two days later, on Friday, September 29, 1.
