FOURTH WIN IN A ROW: OCHSENHAUSEN WINS DERBY AGAINST GRÜNWETTERSBACH
TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen have won the Baden-Württemberg derby in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). The Swabians celebrated a 3:1 win against ASV Grünwettersbach on Friday to kick off matchday 5.
Just two days after reaching the quarter-finals of the German Table Tennis Cup, TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen notched up another success on Friday evening. The four-time German champions won 3:1 against ASV Grünwettersbach to kick off Matchday 5 of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), their fourth win in a row in all competitions. Ochsenhausen had only won 3-0 against Mainz on Wednesday; in the TTBL, after two defeats at the start, there were recent victories against Bremen (3-0) and Mainz (3-1).
With now 6:4 points, the TTF also overtook Grünwettersbach in the table and moved up to third place for the time being. For ASV, on the other hand, it was their second defeat of the season and the team from Baden are now in sixth place with 4:4 points. "It went very well for us today and I was also able to show my best level. I'm very happy that we won," said Ochsenhausen's Hugo Calderano. Grünwettersbach's Ricardo Walther explained: "Ochsenhausen were clear favorites with their line-up, of course, and they lived up to that. They deserved to win."
Hugo Calderano wins twice 3:0
As on Wednesday against Mainz, Ochsenhausen started with Calderano as well as Alvaro Robles and Simon Gauzy, and once again the team presented itself from its best side. It was clear from the very first match that it would be a tough task for Grünwettersbach. Calderano gave Wang Xi no chance and won 3:0 (11:7, 11:4, 11:7). Tiago Apolonia managed to equalize with a 3:0 (11:9, 12:10, 11:7) against Robles, but that was as good as it got for the visitors. Gauzy gave Ochsenhausen the lead again with a 3:1 (7:11, 11:6, 11:5, 11:9) against Walther, and Calderano also won his second match, this time 3:0 (11:6, 11:8, 17:15) against Apolonia. "I know that Tiago is always dangerous," said Calderano afterwards. "But I stayed focused and it went perfectly."
The 5th matchday of the TTBL will continue on Saturday, September 30. Borussia Düsseldorf will then host TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt from 7 p.m. and can move back to the top of the table, at least overnight, with a win. One day later, on Sunday, October 1, 1 FC Saarbrücken TT will face off against Post SV Mühlhausen. On October 2, 1. FSV Mainz 05 will host TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau, before the matchday concludes on October 4 with the match between TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and TSV Bad Königshofen. All matches will be broadcast live on Dyn.
