FIVE OUT OF FIVE - SAARBRÜCKEN ALSO WINS AGAINST MÜHLHAUSEN

FIVE OUT OF FIVE - SAARBRÜCKEN ALSO WINS AGAINST MÜHLHAUSEN

In addition to Borussia from Düsseldorf, 1. FC Saarbrücken is still unbeaten in this TTBL season. Post SV Mühlhausen were unable to change that on matchday 5. However, the Thuringians, who were short of substitutes, knew how to defend themselves.

After a good start to the season (two wins from the first two games), the Post players have now suffered their second defeat in a row.

Darko Jorgic had his opponent Mengel under control in the first match of the day. He fought back in the third set and won it in extra time. However, the comeback was not enough for the entire match in the end.

Oberliga player defies Meissner

Due to personnel worries at Mühlhausen, Nico Müller made his first Bundesliga appearance. Müller, who moved to Mühlhausen before the season as the reigning Central German champion, was actually only scheduled to play in the Oberliga. In his first TTBL match, he was able to take one set (12:10) from German national player Cedric Meissner, who had slipped into the team at short notice due to Yuto Muramatsu's injury during the warm-up. The other sets ended relatively clearly (-6, -3, -4).

After the break, Ovidiu Ionescu helped his team-mate Müller, who was surprisingly seeded first, to his second TTBL singles match with a clear 3:0 win over Patrick Franziska, who is still unbeaten this season.

In the duel between Jorgic and Müller, it looked as if Jorgic was playing with the handbrake on. The Slovenian, who plays for 1. FC Saarbrücken, was already 10:4 ahead in the first set, but failed to take it early (12:10). In the third set, Jorgic even had to fend off two set points, but in the end he still managed to score the final point.

Comments on the game:

Erik Schreyer (Coach Post SV Mühlhausen): "We haven't been able to win once in Saarbrücken in eleven years. We knew it would be extremely difficult. With today's line-up, we sat down together and thought about how we could best win today. The aim was of course to get into the doubles, where I thought we had a good chance. For Nico [Müller], of course, it's also a unique experience to play on one. He did a great job."

Darko Jorgic (1. FC Saarbrücken): "It's always nice to contribute two singles wins, especially at home. I felt very good today. I played very well against Steffen Mengel in the first two sets, but then lost the thread a bit. I came back in the end. The match against Nico Müller wasn't exactly easy. Sure, I was the favorite, but you still have to stay focused and play your game."
