First top then flop: Mühlhausen loses in Mainz
The day before, Post SV Mühlhausen impressively defeated the record champion and league leader from Düsseldorf. One day later, they were defeated in a make-up game of the 18th matchday at the bottom of the table. The 1. FSV Mainz 05 played itself completely loose into a frenzy and celebrates the first 3:0 victory in the table tennis federal league (TTBL).
Although the foolish days are already over also in the Karnevalshochburg Mainz, the 1. FSV Mainz 05 stood in the table tennis federal league (TTBL) on Sunday head. In the catch-up game of the 18th match day, they swept Post SV Mühlhausen 3:0 from their own hall. The latter had defeated Borussia Düsseldorf just as impressively the day before.
The promoted team needed about half a set to get up to operating temperature. Yuto Muramatsu was trailing 3:8 against Ovidiu Ionescu before Mainz was only going in one direction. Muramatsu even had a set point at 11:10 in the first set, but Ionescu saved the set win for Mulhouse. After that, however, he did not have much to offer the Japanese defender. The Japanese player put Mainz in the lead with 11:4, 11:5 and 11:6.
Luka Mladenovic and Andrei Putuntica add to their tally
While Muramatsu is known as Mainz's points guarantor, Luka Mladenovic and Andrei Putuntica often leave the table as losers this season. But against Mulhouse, both were successful thanks to a convincing performance. Mladenovic varied his game against Daniel Habesohn and prevailed 3:1. With the same result, Andrei Putuntica then celebrated his fourth win of the season against Steffen Mengel, so that the Mainz team could celebrate the clear 3:0 home victory with their fans afterwards.
The 19th matchday is also already in full swing. While Mühlhausen has already played its match, Mainz will host TSV Bad Königshofen on Sunday. In addition, 1. FC Saarbrücken travels to ASV Grünwettersbach. On Saturday, TTC Neu-Ulm will also take on TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen. All matches will be broadcast live on the Spontent channels on Twitch.
