Europe Cup: Grünwettersbach misses out on the quarter-finals

ASV Grünwettersbach's Europe Cup adventure came to an end in the round of 16: After the 2:3 in the first leg, the team was eliminated on Wednesday evening with a 0:3 against TTC Sokah Hoboken.

ASV Grünwettersbach had survived the group stage of the Europe Cup with two wins from three matches, but the current fourth-placed team in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) was eliminated in the first knockout round. ASV, which was primarily made up of players from the regional league team, lost twice in the round of 16 against the Belgians from TTC Sokah Hoboken: After the 2:3 in the first leg on Tuesday, the second leg on Wednesday was also lost 0:3.

Deni Kozul came closest to a win in the second leg, but ultimately lost the golden match against Gabrielius Camara 2:3 (7:11, 8:11, 11:5, 11:9, 3:6). Timothy Falconnier also lost 3:0 (5:11, 10:12, 3:11) to Pär Gerell and Rafael Turrini 3:1 (8:11, 11:9, 9:11, 9:11) to Quentin Robinot on Wednesday evening. The first leg was much closer in front of the home crowd, in which Gerell became a fearful opponent. Both Louis Price and Kozul were defeated by the Swede. While Kozul won against Camara and Turrini against Robinot, Price lost the decisive match against Camara.

ASV Grünwettersbach's next match is already scheduled for Friday evening. In the quarter-finals of the German Table Tennis Cup, the team from Baden will face Post SV Mühlhausen from 7 p.m. and hope to reach the Final Four, which will be held on January 7 in the ratiopharm arena Ulm/Neu-Ulm.
