Dyn Media draws positive balance after first season
  • Joint venture between Christian Seifert and Axel Springer launched in August 2023
  • Since then, live coverage of over 2,500 national and international matches in five sports
  • Dyn content reaches cumulative TV reach of almost 500 million viewers
  • Top matches with more than 100,000 viewers

After its first season, the sports broadcaster Dyn is drawing an all-round positive balance. Launched jointly by Christian Seifert, former Managing Director of the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga, and majority shareholder Axel Springer in August 2023, the streaming platform is already reaching millions of German sports fans who are enthusiastic about leagues and sports outside of soccer just under a year later.

In the five sports of handball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and field hockey, Dyn broadcast over 2,500 matches of national and international competitions live in the first season. Top matches were watched by more than 100,000 viewers after just a few months. In cooperation with ARD, ZDF and WELT TV with BILD SPORT, the TV reach for Dyn content amounted to almost 500 million viewers.

Christian Seifert, founder and shareholder of Dyn Media: “After the first live season, our conclusion is clearly positive: Dyn has got off to a very good start. Our streaming service has established itself with fans and leagues. The approach to the further development of leagues and competitions is working excellently, also thanks to the good cooperation with and trust of Axel Springer. The successes are already visible and measurable after just one season: more media coverage for our partners' competitions than ever before, more spectators in the halls and more revenue potential for our sports.”

Jan Bayer, Deputy CEO of Axel Springer: “Just one year after its foundation, Dyn has become an integral part of the daily lives of millions of sports fans. Every day, the great team around Christian Seifert makes the sports streaming market more accessible and entertaining with high-quality editorial and production standards.”

Almost all Dyn subscribers use the services every month. In addition to the live matches, the editorial coverage in the form of magazines, interviews and vodcasts with former players and well-known experts, as well as new faces, also recorded high viewing figures between match days.

The comprehensive editorial concept was complemented by an innovative social media approach. Dyn published a total of around 24,000 posts on its own channels, including YouTube and Instagram. Together with the publications on the social media channels of the partner leagues, clubs and media partners, a total reach of 800 million contacts was achieved. This high visibility makes Dyn an attractive marketing partner. Well-known companies such as Deutsche Vermögensberatung, easyCredit, Tipico, Red Bull, adidas, HAIX, Kempa and many others already used Dyn as an advertising platform in the first season.

With 115,000 streams, the match between THW Kiel and SC Magdeburg on February 7, 2024 in the DAIKIN HBL (formerly: LIQUI MOLY HBL) achieved the highest viewer ratings. Dyn also recorded excellent figures for other highlight matches of the season, such as in the easyCredit BBL. In the Volleyball Bundesliga and the Table Tennis Bundesliga, the viewing figures exceeded our own expectations. Following on from this success, the offering is being successively expanded: The Hockey Bundesliga will be available in its entirety on Dyn from the 2024/25 season.
