Duty fulfilled: Düsseldorf convincing against Fulda

Duty fulfilled: Düsseldorf convincing against Fulda

On the last matchday of the regular Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) season, Borussia Düsseldorf managed a 3:1 victory against the Hessian team from TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell.

Borussia Düsseldorf celebrates a victory in the Tischtennis-Bundesliga (TTBL) at the end of the regular season and thus underpins its championship ambitions.
In the first match, Anton Källberg was challenged by defensive ace Ruwen Filus. Filus, who delivered an impressive performance at the WTT Champions in Xinxiang a few days ago and reached the quarterfinals there with his victory over the world number five Hugo Calderano, was unable to build on this. Only the second set went in favor of the 35-year-old, who finally lost 1:3 against Källberg (3:11, 11:8, 7:11, 5:11).

Wong Chun Ting provides the equalizer

The next match between Wong Chun Ting and Kay Stumper went the full distance. For the Hong Kong-born Chinese, who had reached the round of 16 at the WTT Star Contender in Bangkok a few days earlier, where he lost to the eventual tournament winner Lin Gaoyuan, it was a small liberation. After a disappointing season with a 3:7 record, he set the connecting point to equalize 1-1 (6:11, 11:8, 9:11, 11:7, 11:7). So far, the current world No. 29 has fallen short of his expectations. In the coming season, he will continue to wear the Fulda jersey and will certainly show a stronger side.

The duel between the two national team colleagues and World Championship silver medalists Fan Bo Meng and Dang Qui turned out to be exciting from the beginning, but still ended clearly with a 3:1 victory for the reigning European Champion from Düsseldorf (8:11, 11:9, 4:11, 15:17). For Fan Bo Meng, the season was certainly not an easy one with a final record of 2:18.

Kay Stumper was responsible for the decisive point in Borussia's 3:1 victory. In his direct duel with Ruwen Filus, he once again offered the spectators a spectacle and rallies worth seeing (10:12, 6:11, 9:11).

Squad planning in Fulda already completed

For the team from Fulda it was certainly a season they would like to forget quickly. In the coming season, the team around Ruwen Filus, Wong Chun Ting, Fan Bo Meng and coach Qing Yu Meng will remain in place and will be supplemented by the 18-year-old French U21 international Thibault Poret. Alexandre Cassin, on the other hand, who has been suffering from a shoulder injury for several weeks, will move back to the French league.
