Düsseldorf in step with the league leaders
The record champions are on a roll. After the win at Werder Bremen, the team led by head coach Danny Heister also won in Bergneustadt. Only one match went the full distance.
Borussia Düsseldorf took on the away game in Bergneustadt, just 100 kilometers away, with a full squad. With the victory away from home, the record champions remain close to league leaders Fulda.
Timo Boll had few problems in his match against the slightly ailing Romain Ruiz. Düsseldorf secured the first point clearly in three sets and “without many easy mistakes” (Boll's own words).
In contrast, the match between Adrien Rassenfosse and Anton Källberg was more closely contested. Five sets were necessary to determine a winner (9:11, 11:5, 11:8, 10:12, 2:11). There was not much left for the young Belgian in the final set. 2:0 lead for Düsseldorf at the break.
Duda's follow-up point is not enough
Bergneustadt's local hero, Benedikt Duda, scored the only point for the home side. Although a 3:0 win over Dang Qiu reads clear, the sets were by no means (16:14, 11:8, 12:10). Duda was able to improve his singles record to 4:6 with this success.
In the fourth singles match, Romain Ruiz should have faced Anton Källberg. But the Frenchman was not feeling well. Kanak Jha was substituted. Jha, who had returned from injury, played for his future employer and put Anton Källberg under pressure. However, the Swede in the Düsseldorf kit managed to put the American Jha in his place with his aggressive style of play - especially on the serve and return.
Comments on the game:
Benedikt Duda (Schwalbe Bergneustadt): “I'm a bit disappointed because we played a really good game. We had our chances, but didn't take them in the end. But we definitely want to win our next game in Bad Königshofen. It wasn't Romain's [Ruiz] day today. That's why Kanak [Jha] was substituted. I'm happy that I was able to win against Dang [Qiu] again in my game. It wasn't an easy match because we're good friends.”
Timo Boll (Borussia Düsseldorf): “We are relieved after the win. It wasn't an easy match. Bergneustadt put up a good fight. I'm also satisfied with my performance today. I said goodbye to Bergneustadt with a good game. I'm trying to enjoy my farewell tour and deliver decent matches so that people will remember me fondly.
The TTBL continues in quick succession. Tomorrow, Thursday, Zugbrücke Grenzau will host Post SV Mühlhausen at 7 pm. Bad Königshofen travels to Würzburg on Sunday, where champions Düsseldorf await (3:30 pm).
All TTBL matches will be broadcast live and on demand on Dyn.
