Düsseldorf ends losing streak
The record champions are back on the road to success. After three defeats in a row, Borussia Düsseldorf defeated Post SV Mühlhausen 3:0 on match day 15 in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL).
The season started perfectly for Borussia Düsseldorf. The Rhinelanders remained unbeaten in their first nine matches in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). But then they suffered three defeats in a row and lost the lead in the table. They now returned to winning ways against Post SV Mühlhausen and celebrated their first victory of the second half of the season. Coach Danny Heister also noticed that the pressure to succeed had increased recently despite the cup win at the start of the year. "We knew there was a bit of pressure today, but I think the team gave the right response," he said after the game.
Anton Källberg made the start, who struggled a little at times against Irvin Bertrand. In the end, he won 3:1. "Anton didn't feel so good today, but he did a good job," said Heister. In hindsight, Mühlhausen's Daniel Habesohn saw this game as the decider. "The first game was a bit of a sticking point. We were underdogs, no question. But Irvin had his chances against Anton, but he didn't take them."
Stumper extends the lead - Boll finishes
Kay Stumper then extended his lead. He scored against Ovidiu Ionescu, particularly in the short rallies, and also won 3:1. "Ovi then went into the match against Kay in a rather disjointed manner, made simple mistakes and was then always somehow behind," Habesohn looked back.
After the break, Timo Boll set the final point in the most competitive match of the evening. A duel at eye level developed against Steffen Mengel. Mengel took the lead twice and Boll equalized twice. In the fifth set, it was the player from Düsseldorf who secured victory with 11:6. Boll once again showed himself to be a fair sportsman. In the third set, at 9:10 from Düsseldorf's point of view, Boll reported his own missed serve immediately after the ball had touched the tip of his nose.
