Disillusionment at the cup winner: Neu-Ulm loses by a narrow margin
After the historic cup victory last Sunday, TTC Neu-Ulm is back in the daily league routine. On Matchday 12, they lost to 1. FC Saarbrücken in the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL) by the narrowest of margins. However, this was certainly not due to one player. Vladimir Sidorenko kept his team in the game with two individual victories.
The three Russians Maksim Grebnev, Lev Katsman and Vladimir Sidorenko experienced the Liebherr Cup final from the bench. Two days later, against the 1st FC Saarbrücken, they were supposed to make it right in the Tischtennis Bundes Liga (TTBL). But in the end they lost 9:11 in the fifth set of the doubles.
Sidorenko initially put Neu-Ulm in the lead. He was already trailing 0:2 against Darko Jorgic before he became more and more confident and finally prevailed against the world number nine. At the intermediate score of 1:2, he also kept his nerve against the Czech Tomas Polansky and led the cup winner into the doubles.
Katsman loses twice to nine in the fifth set
The evening was particularly bitter for Lev Katsman. First he lost to Cedric Nuytinck from Belgium and in the final doubles match with Maksim Grebnev he lost 9:11 in the fifth set to Nuytinck/Polansky. Grebnev missed the third point in the duel against Takuya Jin.
To conclude the 12th matchday, Borussia Düsseldorf will host SV Werder Bremen on Wednesday. The 13th matchday in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) continues on Thursday. Saarbrücken and Neu-Ulm will play their next championship matches on Friday. All matches will be broadcast live on Spontent's channels on Twitch.
