Despite falling behind: Düsseldorf marches ahead

Six games, six victories: Record champions Borussia Düsseldorf are still going strong on match day six of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). However, they had to make up some ground against Post SV Mühlhausen.

Coach Danny Heister fielded Norwegian newcomer Borgar Haug for the second time. He faced Daniel Habesohn in a generational duel. However, after his successful debut against Bastian Steger two weeks ago, he was unable to build on this success. Despite a good performance, Haug was beaten 1:3 by the Austrian. The first and third sets in particular were evenly matched. Habesohn only decided them in the extra time of each set, but was ultimately able to give Post SV Mühlhausen a 1:0 lead.

After that, however, Borussia did not allow much to happen. Anton Källberg ensured the equalizer with a 3:1 win against Ovidiu Ionescu. Although Ionescu was able to reduce the deficit again after trailing 0:2, he was unable to really pose a threat to the Swede.

Källberg leads Düsseldorf to victory

Källberg was even more dominant in his second singles match and top match against Daniel Habesohn. He did not even allow the Austrian to come close to winning a set and sealed the 3:3 defeat of the Mühlhausen hosts with his 3:0 victory.

Prior to that, Timo Boll, playing in third position, had given Düsseldorf the lead against Steffen Mengel. Boll, who had just returned in time from the WTT Contender in China, needed a set to get into the match. He lost the first set clearly with 5:11, but in the following sets he played confidently and left no doubt that he would leave the table as the winner.

TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau will conclude the sixth matchday on Monday, October 9, in a duel against SV Werder Bremen. The TTBL continues next weekend with the seventh matchday.
