Cup fever is on the rise: Eight teams want to reach the Final Four

Only one match separates the remaining eight teams in the German Table Tennis Cup from participating in the Final Four. The first title of the season will be awarded on 7 January 2024 in the Liebherr Cup Final Four. Tickets for the top event are available from €15.

Is Borussia Düsseldorf returning to the throne? The record winners have only managed to win the German Table Tennis Cup once in the past five years, and Timo Boll and Co. are now making their next attempt to win their 28th cup this season. The next hurdle on the way is TSV Bad Königshofen: On 15 November, the team from Düsseldorf will host Bastian Steger's team from Lower Franconia and hope for a repeat of their 3:0 victory in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). "The match doesn't say that much about Bad Königshofen's playing strength," says Düsseldorf coach Danny Heister, however, referring to the first-round match in the TTBL and pointing to TSV's personnel situation.

The winner of the match will ultimately advance to the Liebherr Cup Final Four: The cup showdown will once again be held as a Final Four tournament, in which the four best teams will battle it out for the title. Grenzau hopes for first Final Four appearance since 2019

In the recent past, 1. FC Saarbrücken TT, among others, had thwarted the Düsseldorfers. The Saarland side won the 2022 final against Borussia, securing the second cup win in the club's history. After a 3-0 win in the round of 16 in Bad Homburg, Saarbrücken will now face SV Werder Bremen, who last made it to the semi-finals in 2019, on 19 November.

The winner of this match will face TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau or TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, who will play their quarter-final match on 20 November, in the semi-finals on 7 January. Ochsenhausen had already reached the Final Four last year, where they lost 3-0 to the eventual cup winners TTC Neu-Ulm. The TTF have won the cup four times so far, most recently in 2019 - when Hugo Calderano and Simon Gauzy were also in the squad. Grenzau have also won four titles, the most recent dating back to 2005/06. The last time the Westerwald side reached the Final Four was in 2019, when they were beaten by eventual champions Ochsenhausen.

Grünwettersbach with fond memories of Mühlhausen

ASV Grünwettersbach caused the biggest sensation in recent cup history. In 2020, the team from Baden achieved a coup in the doubles against Saarbrücken and Ochsenhausen, ultimately winning the first title in the club's history. After a two-year absence, Grünwettersbach could now return to the Final Four. ASV will face Post SV Mühlhausen in the quarter-finals on 17 November and will be hoping for a tailwind after their 3-0 win in the TTBL following the individual victories of Tiago Apolonia, Wang Xi and Ricardo Walther. The winner of this match will face Düsseldorf or Bad Königshofen in the semi-finals.
