Clear thing for TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt

On the 4th matchday of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt achieved their second win of the season. At TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau, the guests clearly kept the upper hand with 3:0.

On the first three match days of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau and TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt marched in step. The first match of the new season was won, on the second and third matchday they conceded defeat. For Grenzau, the defeats continued. Already in the first match between Patrick Baum and Benedikt Duda, things did not go according to plan. The first set was already the crux, because if Patrick Baum had won it, the match might have been different.

"I was leading 9:5 in the first set and should have won the set," said Patrick Baum after the match. So this and the next set were lost. The third and the fourth went to Baum, but he was quickly 1:5 behind in the fifth. Benedikt Duda took the important set and put Bergneustadt 1:0 ahead with his 3:2 (11:9, 11:5, 9:11, 10:12, 11:4).

Feng and Assar need five sets

The match between Samuel Walker and Romain Ruiz went faster. Walker had little to order in the 0:3 (8:11, 9:11, 5:11). "Samuel, however, kept up well in the first two sets," analysed Patrick Baum.

The third and last match of the evening lasted almost an hour. Omar Assar started well against Yi-Hsin Feng, but was almost without a chance in the next two sets. Then the Egyptian regained his composure, used his second match point and won the match 3:2 (11:9, 5:11, 3:11, 11:8, 12:10), thus securing an important away win for TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt.

"I watched a lot of videos of Feng," said Assar. "But I had no chance in the second and third sets because Feng was very fast. However, Benedikt Duda gave me many good tips on how to play against Feng. Our team spirit is just good, I like that."
