CL semi-finals: TTBL clubs among themselves
The two semi-finals of the 2022/23 Champions League have been decided: Borussia Düsseldorf will meet TTC Neu-Ulm, 1. FC Saarbrücken will play Post SV Mühlhausen. This is the result of the draw that has just ended at the ETTU headquarters in Luxembourg.
Hammer lot: Borussia meets Neu-Ulm
For the first time in the history of the European Champions League, Germany will provide all four semi-finalists. Among them is Borussia Düsseldorf, which has reached the final round for the seventh time in a row. The lottery fairy gave the German record winner TTC Neu-Ulm a newcomer among the top four, but with it a hammer draw. The southern Germans are nominally the strongest team in the competition, they have with Tomokazu Harimoto, Truls Moregard, Lin Yun-Ju and Dimitrij Ovtcharov the current number two, five, eight and nine in the world in their ranks.
"Neu-Ulm is the draw we would have liked not to have had. Mühlhausen also has a great team that first has to be beaten, but Neu-Ulm is another house number," was the first reaction of manager Andreas Preuß immediately after the draw. "One thing is certain: This will be a very special duel, a table tennis feast."
Borussia, as the number one seed, must first play away from home and has home rights in the second encounter.
Mühlhausen receives Saarbrücken
On Sunday, the last matches in the Champions League were played. In Group D, 1. FC Saarbrücken TT justified its status and secured a place in the semifinals as group winners. To make it to the final of the Champions League, the Saarlanders have to beat Post SV Mühlhausen. The latter has first home rights in the first round and only has to play away in the second leg.
The semifinals
The semifinal matches will take place between February 10 and 14, 2023, and between February 15 and 19, 2023. The match dates will now be set at short notice.
