Calderano comeback: Mühlhausen beats Ochsenhausen

First match, first win: Post SV Mühlhausen started the new season of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) with a 3:1 win against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen on Monday, and not even TTBL returnee Hugo Calderano could stop last year's fourth-placed team.

At the start of the new season of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), Post SV Mühlhausen was still match-free and had to watch, on Monday evening the Thuringians were now allowed to intervene for the first time - and promptly put a thick exclamation mark. They won 3:1 against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen on Matchday 2, with Ovidiu Ionescu in particular being celebrated by the fans.

The Romanian faced Hugo Calderano in the top singles and thus a prominent returnee. After the world number five Calderano had not played for Ochsenhausen in the previous week in Düsseldorf (1:3), he celebrated his comeback in the TTBL on Monday, but cut his teeth against Ionescu in his second match. With 3:2 (3:11, 11:9, 11:5, 11:13, 11:5) Ionescu finally rejoiced and thus bagged the 3:1 victory of his team.

Ionescu keeps the upper hand in the fifth against Kulczycki as well

Ionescu had already gone the full distance in the opening singles and won against Samuel Kulczycki 3:2 (11:6, 9:11, 9:11, 11:7, 11:6). Calderano then served for the TTF for the first time since 2021 and celebrated a successful return with a 3:2 (12:10, 11:6, 11:13, 7:11, 11:6) win over Steffen Mengel. On position three Daniel Habesohn won 3:1 (11:9, 11:8, 9:11, 11:8) against Can Akkuzu.

The table tennis Bundesliga continues with the 3rd matchday, which starts next Wednesday. Post SV Mühlhausen will then host TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell starting at 7 p.m. In the parallel matches, TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt will play TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau and Borussia Düsseldorf will take on SV Werder Bremen.
