Bundesliga promotion candidate Bad Homburg gets Kristian Karlsson
A world champion for Bad Homburg: the ambitious second-division club has brought in renowned support for its Bundesliga mission.
The ambitious second-division table tennis club TTC Bad Homburg has pressed ahead with its squad planning for the coming season and presented a well-known new signing. Swedish former world champion Kristian Karlsson will move from GV Hennebont TT in France to Hesse for the 2024/25 season and will then probably play in Bad Homburg's Bundesliga team - the TTC is currently in second place behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund and is therefore on course for promotion.
"I like ambitious clubs with vision and the challenge that comes with it," said Karlsson, explaining his decision. The 2021 doubles world champion and 2023 European team champion with Sweden is looking forward to "the younger teammates, whom I would like to help with my experience".
Karlsson, currently number 20 in the doubles world rankings and number 42 in the singles world rankings, knows the Bundesliga inside out. He played for top club Borussia Düsseldorf together with German idol Timo Boll from 2016 to 2022 and won four German championships there as well as the national cup and the Champions League three times each.
Bad Homburg recently underlined its ambitions to play in the top flight next season. A few days ago, the club submitted its official application for the Bundesliga licensing procedure.
