Bremen stops Königshofen's run
TSV Bad Königshofen faced the longest away trip in the league this Saturday. It's around 450 kilometers from tranquil Bad Königshofen to the big city of Bremen. In the end, however, the visitors were beaten 3:0 by the Hanseatic team and returned to the Grabfeld without any points.
The third win in a row came to nothing. After the surprise win against Ochsenhausen, TSV Bad Königshofen clearly lost in Bremen.
Falck has Allegro under control
Martin Allegro could do little against Mattias Falck today. The Swede clearly dominated the Belgian in sets one and three. Falck almost took the second set from Allegro, although the man from Königshofen was already leading 9:3. The fourth set was more open from the start, but the Bremen player had the better end.
Steger forces Aguirre over the full distance
Filip Zeljko had no chance against Kirill Gerassimenko. The Croatian was unable to do much with his usually dangerous serves against TSV. The player from Bremen knew how to return and defused his opponent's serves. "Filip Zeljko's serves are very fast and have a lot of cut. He also hits a lot of long serves. I expected that and tried to prepare for it in training beforehand," added Gerassimenko.
The highlight match of the evening was between Bastian Steger and Marcelo Aguirre. The 42-year-old former German national player Steger once again proved his comeback qualities in the match. In the second set, he found himself trailing 3:7 - but managed to turn this into an 11:7 set win. In the final fifth set, it was Aguirre who made up a deficit (from 1:5 to 6:7), fended off two match points and finally closed out the match by the narrow margin of 13:11. Bremen now celebrates its second win in a row.
Comments on the match:
Kirill Gerassimenko (SV Werder Bremen): "Filip Zeljko's serves are very fast and full of cuts. He also hits a lot of long serves. I expected that and tried to adjust to it in training beforehand.
Tomorrow I'm going straight to Qatar for the next tournament. Marcelo [Aguirre] is flying to the Pan American Games in Chile tomorrow. Mattias is playing the WTT Champions in Frankfurt. We all have international tournaments in the next few weeks."
Martin Allegro (TSV Bad Königshofen): "We are very disappointed. Of course, we traveled here with a lot of self-confidence, including last year's victory in Bremen. But today just wasn't our day. We had a few opportunities, but we couldn't take advantage of them. I'm actually feeling pretty good this season, but Mattias is also one of the best players in the world."
