Bremen shines: Sovereign 3:0 victory over Ochsenhausen
In the top match of matchday 7 of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), SV Werder Bremen made a clear statement and surprisingly defeated TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen 3:0 away from home. While the hosts went into the match as favorites, Bremen impressed with a cohesive team performance and thus secured important points in the race for the play-off places.
Putuntica surprises Togami at the start
Andrei Putuntica already showed in the first singles match that Bremen would not be easy prey. The Moldovan top player got off to a nervous start against Ochsenhausen's Shunsuke Togami and narrowly lost the first set 12:14. However, Putuntica quickly found his game. He repeatedly forced Togami to make mistakes. He confidently won the next three sets 11:7, 11:8 and 11:8 to give Bremen a 1:0 lead.
Falck dominates against Abiodun
In the second singles match, Ochsenhausen's young hope Tiago Abiodun faced the experienced Mattias Falck. The Swedish runner-up from 2019 dominated from the start and hardly gave the young Portuguese player a chance. Falck gave Bremen a 2:0 lead with 11:6, 11:8 and 11:5 and sent out a clear signal.
The hosts' hopes now rested on Simon Gauzy, who was supposed to turn things around against Kirill Gerassimenko. But even the French top player was unable to find a way against the player from Bremen. Gerassimenko showed nerves of steel in a high-class match and won the second set 16:14 in extra time. The Kazakh also remained superior in the remaining rounds and ultimately prevailed 11:9, 16:14 and 11:8. With this third victory, he sealed the 3:0 win for the visitors.
For Ochsenhausen, this defeat was a serious setback. After four wins in a row recently, the team put in an unusually weak performance, especially in the decisive moments. None of the three games went the full distance - Bremen were wide awake in the key moments of the encounter.
The mood at SV Werder Bremen was different: After two defeats in a row, the Hanseatic team made an impressive comeback. Led by a confident Mattias Falck and supported by strong performances from Putuntica and Gerassimenko, the team proved that it can keep up with any opponent in the TTBL.
Comments:
Bogdan Pugna (Coach, TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen): “We had some medical problems in our squad in the last few days and therefore couldn't play from full strength.”
Andrei Putuntica (SV Werder Bremen): “We came here with a lot of confidence from the cup win against Fulda. We were still a bit tired, but everything worked perfectly today.”
