Bremen fights its way to victory at promoted team
Mattias Falck led SV Werder Bremen to victory against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Matchday 14 of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). Against the promoted team, who competed without their points guarantor Yuto Muramatsu, the Hanseatic team repeated the result of the first round.
In the end, Bremen lived up to their role as favorites against Mainz in the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL). But it was quite a bit of work until then. Doubles world champion Mattias Falck defeated both Andrei Putuntica and Luka Mladenovic to take two of the three points. The third point was won by Cristian Pletea.
The Romanian faced Luka Mladenovic in the first singles match. The first four sets were tight in each case. In the decisive set, however, Pletea played confidently and won the set clearly with 11:3. He got the break and the early lead for Bremen. Falck then extended the lead. He defeated Andrei Putuntica 3:1.
Carlo Rossi with first win of the season
In the duel of the two material players, Falck also prevailed against Mladenovic. In the first set Falck led 10:8, but could not convert the set points. In extra time, Mladenovic missed three set points, while Falck converted the seventh to win the set. The Mainz player was able to equalize this advance, but in the end the Swede was jubilant.
Before that, Carlo Rossi had provided the point of honor for Mainz. Against Kirill Gerassimenko, the Italian scored his first win in the current Bundesliga season. Twice he equalized the set lead of the Kazakh. The fifth set was even before Rossi rushed to victory from 8:8 with three points in a row. However, he could not prevent Bremen's overall victory.
