Borussia Düsseldorf to face Bergneustadt: The Liebherr TTBL Final4 semifinals are set
Following a spectacular conclusion to the regular season in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), the matchups for the Liebherr TTBL Final4 have been determined. Regular-season champion Borussia Düsseldorf will face TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt. In the second semifinal, SV Werder Bremen will face 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis. The Liebherr TTBL Final4 will take place on May 30 and 31, 2026, at the Süwag ENERGIE Arena in Frankfurt. Tickets for the event are still available.
To wrap up the regular season of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), Borussia Düsseldorf flexed its muscles once again. Even before Matchday 22, the record champions had secured first place in the standings; on Sunday, they recorded another commanding 3-1 victory over the reigning German champions, TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen. With this regular season win, Düsseldorf has earned the right to choose their opponent for the semifinal between the third- and fourth-place teams at the Liebherr TTBL Final4.
Following the final match of the main round, Borussia announced its decision: Düsseldorf will face TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt on May 30 in Frankfurt at the Süwag ENERGIE Arena starting at 1 p.m. The second semifinal between SV Werder Bremen and 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis will follow at 5 p.m. The two winners will then face off in the final on May 31 at 1 p.m. to compete for the German championship.

Saarbrücken is ready to attack: “We’re looking forward to a great event in Frankfurt”
“We chose Bergneustadt because I think they’re a better match for us,” says Düsseldorf coach Danny Heister about the decision. During the regular season, Borussia beat Bergneustadt twice (3-1, 3-2). “We take it one game at a time,” says Heister, “so we’re now fully focused on the match against Bergneustadt—and then we’ll see who we face in the final, if necessary.” Bergneustadt coach Frederik Duda commented on the semifinal matchup: “On paper, we may be the underdogs, but my team has proven time and again this season that it can hold its own against any opponent. We accept every challenge and are heading to the Final4 with the clear goal of winning it.”
Saarbrücken, which has catapulted itself into the role of title favorite in all competitions following the signing of Fan Zhendong and has already won the German Table Tennis Cup, finished the regular season on Sunday with a 1-3 loss in Bergneustadt. Somewhat surprisingly, the Saarland team ended up in fourth place in the standings. “Bremen is a strong team. I expect a close match, but I see us as slight favorites,” says FCS team manager Nicolas Barrois. “We’re really looking forward to the great event in Frankfurt. We already have experience with Final Four tournaments—and, above all, very positive experiences. Accordingly, we’re looking forward to the match against Bremen with anticipation and confidence.”
Preparations are also already underway at the league’s northernmost club. “We’re aware that Saarbrücken, with Fan Zhendong, is considered the big favorite to win the title. That will definitely be a Herculean task for us, but preparations are already underway, and we’re looking forward to the semifinals at the end of May,” said Sascha Greber and Cristian Tamas of SV Werder Bremen.
