Borussia Düsseldorf secures the fall championship
After Borussia suffered its first defeat of the current Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL) season against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau the previous week, eyes and ears were pricked up in the duel against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt. Bergneustadt, on the other hand, tried to use the momentum in their favor and collect important points at the record champion.
On the Borussia side, Anton Källberg, as often called up as number one, stepped into the box for the opening singles. With an even 8:0 record in the current TTBL season, he was the clear favorite against the seven years older Ecuadorian, who has yet to record a win for TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt in the current season. With a smooth 3:0 victory Källberg finally lived up to his role as favorite (11:6, 13:11, 11:3).
Omar Assar manages the break
In the second singles match, Omar Assar won the break for the guests with 13:11 in the decisive set against Sharath Kamal Achanta (8:11, 11:7, 3:11, 11:2, 11:13). However, that was all the Bergneustadt team could do after the break. After the break, Timo Boll had a one-sided match against Romain Ruiz and won 3:0.
Källberg remains guarantor of success for Borussia
In the match between the two players seeded at position one, Källberg was to set the tone for Borussia Düsseldorf and Assar for TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt.
In the last direct TTBL comparison from 2017, Assar came out on top against Källberg by a very thin margin of 12:10 in the deciding set. However, after Assar won the first set, Källberg found his way back to his game in the following three sets and finally prevailed 3:1 against the reigning African champion.
Borussia Düsseldorf thus secured the autumn championship. Bergneustadt did not manage to escape from the lower third of the table.
