Borussia Düsseldorf extends world-class player Källberg until 2026
Borussia Düsseldorf's top stars remain a team. After Dang Qiu, Anton Källberg has now also extended his contract. The Swedish international will remain on the Rhine for a further two years, with the new contract running until June 30, 2026. He has already won eleven titles with the club (2x Champions League, 5x German Championship, 4x German Cup), is consistently one of the best players in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) and made it into the top 15 of the world rankings for the first time at the start of the year.
Anton Källberg has long since become a crowd favorite. Approachable, always likeable and emotional and combative at the table. More importantly, he scores reliably for Borussia. He has just achieved his 200th win in a singles match in the record champions' jersey. It was the decisive point in the semi-final of the German Cup, and in the final he ensured the preliminary decision in the title duel with another triumph over Saarbrücken's top player Patrick Franziska. The Swede even remained completely unbeaten in this cup season and played a key role in winning the German Championship 2023 with two spectacular victories in the final. His performances in the Champions League, in which he led Borussia to the 2021 title and last season's epic semi-final against Neu-Ulm in the final, will also remain unforgotten.
In all his years at Borussia, he has also played his way up the international ladder. He has long since earned the title of "world class", is established in the top 20 of the world rankings and is a regular in the Swedish national team.
The 26-year-old has now been playing for the state capital for eight years and manager Andreas Preuß and head coach Danny Heister are delighted that the longest-serving player in Düsseldorf after Timo Boll will be staying for another two seasons. "I'm very happy that we were able to extend the contract," says Heister. "We've been working together for a long time now. It's always been positive and Anton still has potential to improve. He has of course already achieved a great deal, but I would like to help him become even better. That's why it's great that he's staying."
And Preuß agrees: "When we last extended his contract, I said that we would still have a lot of fun with him. That has proven to be true. He came to us in 2016 as a young player with great talent. His performance curve here has been on a constant upward trajectory. Anton is a great fighter and plays very attractive table tennis. He has been one of the best players in the league for many years. We want to and can win a few more titles with him."
Källberg is naturally happy to hear that: "I'm delighted to be staying at Borussia and I'm also proud to be able to continue being part of this team. I really feel very comfortable here," said the attacking player. Two of the top players, Anton Källberg and Dang Qiu, have extended their contracts beyond this season, while Timo Boll still has a valid contract until 2025. Borussia's aces will therefore remain in Düsseldorf and continue to chase titles as a dream team.
