Borussia Düsseldorf extends contract with Borgar Haug

Norway's top player Borgar Haug remains a Borussian. The club extended his contract early by one year until June 30, 2026. The five-time individual champion of his country completes the team and will play together with Dang Qiu, Anton Källberg, Kanak Jha and Jongyin Li for the record champions in the coming season.

This will be the 22-year-old's third season on the Rhine. The left-hander has integrated well into the team and also supports the team when he is not at the table. He has already celebrated a German championship and a cup title, as well as reaching the Champions League final with the club in the previous season. So far, he has worn the Borussia jersey 23 times, making 15 appearances in singles and eight in doubles. In the current season, he drew particular attention to himself when he and Anton Källberg secured two important victories for his colors in the top matches against Saarbrücken and Bremen.

“I wanted Borgar to stay in the team,” says Head Coach Danny Heister happily. “It's a good collaboration and he's already improved in our first year together, and he's improved significantly in the last few months.” When the Norwegian international joined Borussia, he was ranked 295th in the world. Since then, he has improved by around 200 positions and played his way up to 96th place (as of 10.12.2024). “And I'm sure there's more to come. He's a great support for the team, even though he hasn't had any easy assignments recently,” Heister continues.

he team spirit of the Oslo-born player also inspires manager Andreas Preuß: “He lives and trains here and identifies completely with the club. Borgar Haug fits in well with Borussia and he feels very much at home here.”

“Düsseldorf has become my home. I'm very happy that I was able to sign for another year,” explains the likeable Scandinavian, who also forms a strong duo with Anton Källberg. “I've been able to develop really well here and want to learn even more and give something back to the club. And I'm still a bit excited about what the future will bring with Borussia.”
