Borussia Düsseldorf announces new arrival
Borussia Düsseldorf signs Norway's young talent Borgar Haug and equips the 20-year-old with a contract until June 30, 2024.
The three-time singles champion of his country is the first newcomer for the upcoming season and the new number five in the team. He is expected to relieve the quartet of Timo Boll, Dang Qiu, Anton Källberg and Kay Stumper.
"We are looking forward to Borgar. With him, we were able to sign another young and very talented player who will be a first-class addition to our team," says manager Andreas Preuß about the new signing. "He will live and train in Düsseldorf and play an important role in our daily routine."
The Norwegian national player is currently ranked 295 in the current world rankings and has developed steadily in recent years. The left-hander's greatest successes include his triumph at the Europe Top 10 of the Juniors in 2021 and the tournament victory in the same year at the WTT Youth Star Contender in the Czech Republic, when he defeated Kay Stumper in the final. In his home country, the Oslo native has already won the national title three times in singles and once each in doubles and mixed. In 2022 he became Swedish team champion with his current club Halmstad BTK.
"Borussia Düsseldorf is one of the greatest clubs in the world. I'm very happy to be able to play here next season. I still want to learn a lot, improve further and win titles with the team," says Borgar Haug, who is looking forward to the record champion.
Head coach Danny Heister: "Borgar is a talent with great potential. We want to help him tickle this out and develop him further. He is very ambitious, incredibly willing to learn and one who goes into every training session highly motivated. Borgar is also a great person who is very respectful of others. He is therefore a great fit for our team, both athletically and as a person. We will build him up carefully. He will get his assignments and strengthen our team."
