Boll: New TTBL media cooperation "the next logical step"

Germany's idol Timo Boll is very positive about the new media cooperation of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). Together with icons from other sports, the World Cup bronze medalist and European Championship record winner from German champion Borussia Düsseldorf has high hopes for the future presentation on the joint platform from S Nation Media.

Germany's star player Timo Boll has given a positive assessment of the innovative broadcast concept of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) after the first match days of the new season. "We're only at the beginning, but in terms of quality it was already very good," said the tech-savvy World Cup bronze medalist at a media event for his club Borussia Düsseldorf, praising the beefed-up streaming offering from new TTBL partner Spontent, which broadcasts all TTBL matches live on Twitch.

From Boll's point of view, the development of the league in the media sector fits in with the growing importance of table tennis. "My impression over the last few months has been that we are on the upswing overall. So the new cooperation with a highly professional partner is the next logical step," the former world number one continued.

More camera positions, more user experience

Spontent has been offering a number of innovations in its online broadcasts since the start of the season in the German top flight. The most striking innovations include a greater number of camera positions, a second commentator and the possibility for users to exchange virtual views with reporters and studio guests.

The modernized formats are already also part of the preparation of TTBL and Spontent alike for the start of S Nation Media's streaming program from the coming season. TTBL matches will be presented on a joint platform alongside broadcasts from the national leagues of handball, basketball and volleyball.

Timo Boll: "We are all very much looking forward to the joint project".

The celebrities of the participating sports hope that the merger will increase their visibility on the media level in the shadow of the dominating soccer. "I was at a European Basketball Championship game in Cologne and met former national handball player Stefan Kretzschmar, who is now a Bundesliga manager in Berlin. We found that we are all very much looking forward to this joint project because each can also benefit from the other when we are under one roof," Boll reported from expert discussions, adding, "We all expect a lot from this project. When the platform is in place next year, it will be really exciting."

His club manager Andreas Preuß, who is also the chairman of the supervisory board of the TTBL, also emphasized the clubs' reasons for the new path on the same occasion: "We consider the new partnership to be a milestone. The European Championships in Munich have only shown once again what opportunities are associated with supposedly smaller sports joining forces. We are convinced that we can reach new target groups by regularly offering high-quality content."
