Bergneustadt win in Dortmund – Duda delivers twice
To round off Matchday 6 of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt earned a vital victory in the fight for the play-off places. After a 3–1 win away to Borussia Dortmund, Benedikt Duda’s team sit third in the table. For Dortmund, only Adam Szudi tasted success on Sunday evening.
As the world No. 8, different standards apply — and Duda knows it. “People expect me to take two points often, and I’m happy I was able to deliver again,” he told Dyn after the win. He had sealed the team’s success with his second straight-games 3–0 of the day against Dortmund’s Cédric Nuytinck, having already beaten Alberto Mino earlier.
Szudi’s consolation point for BVB
In addition to Duda’s two points, Leo de Nodrest got Bergneustadt rolling — also without dropping a game. Nuytinck, forced to play at No. 1 in the absence of Dortmund’s top players Anders Lind and Kristian Karlsson, struggled to shoulder the load on the night.
Dortmund’s lone point came after the interval through Adam Szudi. In a hard-fought match featuring game scores of 14–12 and 19–17, the Hungarian claimed his first TTBL win of the season with a 3–1 over Adrien Rassenfosse. “Szudi was simply the bolder player in the decisive moments and deserved the win,” Duda said, analysing Dortmund’s only success.
Bergneustadt solid in the play-off race
After the surprise 2–3 defeat at Zugbrücke Grenzau, Schwalbe are back on track. Six matchdays in, the club sit third and are firmly on play-off course. Despite many good performances, Dortmund — now 4–8 — have to cast an eye down the table.
