Bergneustadt remains in bottom of the table
The TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt is still in the relegation battle in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). After a great fight, they have to admit defeat to Post SV Mühlhausen on match day 9.
It was a high-class duel on Sunday afternoon in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) that Post SV Mühlhausen delivered to TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt. In the end, it was one set that made the difference. Romain Ruiz and Alberto Mino lost the doubles 2:3 and so did Bergneustadt against Mühlhausen.
Accordingly, Schwalbe coach Frederik Duda was served. "Currently it is really a disaster. Somehow it doesn't want to succeed anymore. But the good thing is, our form is slowly coming back. It's really the only positive thing," he let out his disappointment. "It's once again a 2:3, once again a set that decides, and we're back with zero points."
Omar Assar gives Bergneustadt the lead
Omar Assar had defeated Steffen Mengel 3:2 after a strong performance and thus initially put Bergneustadt in the lead. But Mühlhausen struck back twice. First Daniel Habesohn won 3:2 against Benedikt Duda, then Ovidiu Ionescu against Romain Ruiz brought the 2-1 lead. After Mengel lost again, this time 1:3 against Benedikt Duda, it went into the doubles.
Both teams brought one new player each. Kim Taehyun came in for Daniel Habesohn, Alberto Mino replaced Omar Assar. The hosts from Mühlhausen had the better start. Habesohn and Taehyun took the lead 1-0 and later 2-1. Mino and Ruiz were able to equalize twice. However, they could not make up the 4:7 deficit in the decisive set. Habesohn and Taehyun brought the lead to the finish.
Erik Schreyer: "Today it didn't deserve a loser."
Relieved was Mühlhausen's coach Erik Schreyer after the game. "Today it just didn't deserve a loser. Bergneustadt put everything in, we held against it and maybe it was really the two three points in the end where our fans passionately whipped us forward." For Schreyer, Daniel Habesohn is the match-winner. He brought his team back into the game after falling behind. "Today we had luck on our side. The two points are really worth their weight in gold in this tight table," Schreyer is relieved .
The 10th matchday continues next weekend. Mühlhausen plays host to TTC Neu-Ulm on Monday evening. On Sunday, the Swallows will welcome the Bremen team in Bergneustadt.
