Bergneustadt pulls itself out of the relegation places under its own power

TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt got important points against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen in the fight against relegation in the last match of matchday 15. The guests defeated the third in the table with 3:2.

After the TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt had a very hard time in the last two matches against the record champion Düsseldorf and the second in the table from Saarbrücken, the team around Benedikt Duda had to go to Ochsenhausen. Ochsenhausen had not yet lost a match in the new year, which is why the Bergneustadt team arrived here as underdogs. But TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt knew about the importance of this match, because in case of a victory they could fight their way up to the 10th place in the table, away from the two relegation places.

The French duel

The match started with Alvaro Robles against Omar Assar. After four sets (11:9, 11:5, 4:11, 11:9) the Spaniard could secure the lead for the hosts. This was followed by the duel between the two Frenchmen Simon Gauzy and Romain Ruiz, which Ruiz from Bergneustadt won 3:0 (11:8, 15:13, 11:9) with a strong performance. His teammate Benedikt Duda continued right there and gave TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt the 2-1 lead with a 3:1 victory (11:8, 11:9, 7:11, 12:10). But after an exciting match between the two top seeded players, which Alvaro Robles could win narrowly 3:2 (11:7, 7:11, 11:7, 6:11, 11:9), it went to the final doubles. Here the young Pole Samuel Kulczycki and the Frenchman Can Akkuzu competed against Benedikt Duda and Omar Assar. The Bergneustadt team was more composed in the decisive moments and deserved to win 3:1 (11:8, 6:11, 11:6, 11:9), taking  important points home in the fight against relegation.

Comments on the match

Alvaro Robles, TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen: "Today I could play a good level, that feels good. The start of the year was good for me." Coach Yong Fu also confirms his good performance: "Of course it's a pity that we lose the home match against Bergneustadt. The problem at the moment is that only Alvaro is top fit. Simon, Can and Sam are away with the national team and are therefore tired."

Romain Ruiz, TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt: "We have a very good team, but in the past matches we had difficulties to find our confidence. Today, however, everyone played much better and this win gives us great hope for the next matches."

The 16th matchday of the Tischtennis Bundesliga already starts next Friday with two matches. All matches will be broadcast live on Spontent's channels on Twitch.
