Bergneustadt gets two points in Mainz at the end of the season (3:1)
1.FSV Mainz 05 can look back on a remarkable series - the Rheinhessen team recently strung together four home victories, beating Neu-Ulm, Mühlhausen, Bad Königshofen and Fulda. But for a fifth home win in a row, the TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt did not play along and won the duel 3:1.
The first leg between the two teams had also marked Mainz's TTBL debut, with Bergneustadt prevailing 3-1 over FSV last August. Mainz wanted to bring in the fifth home victory in a row in this return match. As a result, even the 11th place in the table would have been possible, provided that Fulda loses in parallel against Borussia Düsseldorf. Düsseldorf did its part to ensure that Mainz could still finish 11th on its own merits, but a too strong Benedikt Duda put a spanner in the works for 1. FSV Mainz 05.
Thriller in the first singles, then 3 times 0:3
In the first match Andrei Putuntica and Alberto Mino faced each other. Putuntica could show his performance improvement in the last match days with wins against Filip Zeljko and Steffen Mengel. After being down 1:2 against Mino, he still made it to the fifth set, won it narrowly with 12:10 and celebrated his sixth singles win this season. This is the most singles wins for Mainz this season behind Yuto Muramatsu.
The following three singles each went 3:0 to the guests from Bergneustadt. First Benedikt Duda gave Luka Mladenovic no chance, before Omar Assar made short work of Carlo Rossi. Benedikt Duda won the last point for his home club by beating Andrei Putuntica 11:8, 11:8, 11:8.
