Battle of nerves in Grenzau: Bremen celebrates third win of the season
SV Werder Bremen celebrated their third win of the season in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) at the end of matchday 6. On Monday, Mattias Falck and Co. won 3:2 at TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau.
SV Werder Bremen had to wait almost six weeks, but on Monday evening the Hanseatic team managed their third win of the season in a battle of nerves. After two previous defeats in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), they celebrated their third win of the season with a 3:2 victory at TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau on Monday evening and moved up to third place in the table with 6:4 points. In September, Werder had first lost at Borussia Düsseldorf (2:3) and then against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen (0:3). Most recently, the team had already been successful in the cup round of 16 against TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell (3:0). Grenzau, on the other hand, are still in ninth place with two wins this season and 4:8 points.
In a table tennis battle lasting almost four hours, the nerves of Kirill Gerassimenko and Marcelo Aguirre ultimately made the difference in Bremen's favor. In the doubles match against Maciej Kubik and Samuel Walker, they fended off a total of four set points in the third set and finally prevailed 14:12. A little later, Gerassimenko/Aguirre made everything clear for the visitors with a 3:1 (11:3, 6:11, 14:12, 11:8). "I'm very happy that we won today. We will continue to give our all," said Aguirre afterwards. "Of course I'm happy about my performance, but in the end it's always about the team's success. And I want to do as much as I can to help achieve that."
Mattias Falck bites his teeth out against Feng Yi-Hsin
In the top singles match, Mattias Falck had narrowly missed out on an earlier decision. The Swede had three match points against Feng Yi-Hsin, but was ultimately beaten 2:3 (8:11, 11:5, 11:6, 6:11, 11:13). Feng had also won the opening singles match against Kirill Gerassimenko 3:0 (11:6, 12:10, 11:9), Falck equalized with a 3:1 (11:9, 7:11, 11:8, 11:9) against Walker. At position three, Aguirre won 3:2 (11:9, 9:11, 11:5, 6:11, 11:9) against Kubik.
The next match day in the German Table Tennis League starts next Friday, October 13. TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau will once again have to face TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell at 7 pm. One day later, SV Werder Bremen will also be back in action, hosting TSV Bad Königshofen on Saturday at 7 pm. The remainder of Matchday 7 will also see matches between 1.
