Bad Königshofen starts furiously with 3-0 victory over Mühlhausen to kick off the season

On the first matchday of the new 2024/2025 Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) season, TSV Bad Königshofen hosted Post SV Mühlhausen in the Shakehands Arena. The final result was more decisive than anyone had expected beforehand.

After two defeats for TSV in the direct duels against Mühlhausen last season, it was clear to the hosts: this would not be an easy match. Especially at the start of the season, "where we all first need to see where we actually stand," said Bastian Steger.

Steger starts successfully into his 25th season in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL)

"Yes, time flies so incredibly fast. When I hear that this is my 25th season, I'm surprised myself, but it's still fun, and I'm really looking forward to this season again—especially after our successful last season," Bastian Steger said in an interview.

And the hosts honored that past successful season today on the first matchday. With a 3-0 win (11:5, 12:10, 11:4), the Königshofen lead player Steger started against Ionescu and quickly put his club 1-0 ahead.

Zeljko and Ueda also score

In the second singles match of the day, Zeljko faced Mengel. Here too, the home team had the better start, and Zeljko was able to take a 2-0 set lead. Only the third set went to the guests from Mühlhausen. After that, the Croatian sealed the deal and won 3-1 (11:9, 11:5, 9:11, 11:6).

That would be the last set won by the guests. In the third match, the first set went narrowly to Ueda 12:10, who then completely dominated the game against Bertrand and won 3-0. "Of course, that was an optimal start today. It couldn't have gone better," Bastian Steger rejoiced after the match.

With two points from this home victory and a 9-1 set record, TSV Bad Königshofen temporarily secures the top spot in the standings.
