Bad Königshofen after show of strength in cup quarter finals

The main round of the German Table Tennis Cup is open: TSV Bad Königshofen was the first team to reach the quarterfinals on Monday and is only one step away from a place in the Final Four after defeating TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt 3-2.

After the starting signal in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), the title hunt in the German Table Tennis Cup is also picking up speed. On Monday evening, the first round of 16 was played and TSV Bad Königshofen was the first team to punch its ticket to the quarterfinals. Thanks to a strong performance in the doubles, the team from Lower Franconia won 3:2 against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt.

It was the combination of Martin Allegro and Bastian Steger that made it relatively clear. The TSV doubles team dominated the final doubles match against Adrien Rassenfosse and Romain Ruiz right from the start and thus ensured relaxed expressions among the fans of Bad Königshofen. In the end, Allegro/Steger won 3:0 (11:7, 11:7, 11:2) and thus made their team's quarter-final entry perfect. Only on Saturday, the Lower Franconians had celebrated their first win of the season, on the 2nd matchday of the TTBL, there was a 3:0 at the 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Benedikt Duda wins twice in the fifth set

Earlier on Monday, Bad Königshofen had twice had the opportunity for a clearer result, but lost out to Benedikt Duda on both occasions. First Allegro had the 2:0 on the racket against the German national player and lost 2:3 (7:11, 11:4, 11:9, 6:11, 11:13), before Filip Zeljko had a similar fate in the top singles at 2:3 (8:11, 6:11, 11:6, 11:5, 16:18) after a strong comeback. The singles wins were provided by Zeljko with a 3:0 (11:5, 14:12, 11:3) against Rassenfosse and Steger with a 3:1 (6:11, 11:5, 11:7, 11:5) against Ruiz.

The next round of 16 will be played on September 24 when third division SU Neckarsulm hosts Post SV Mühlhausen. The top eight teams in the Cup season will battle it out in the quarterfinals, which will ultimately determine which four teams advance to the Final Four event.
