As in the first leg: Saarbrücken beats Bremen in double
The 1st FC Saarbrücken TT has also won the second leg against SV Werder Bremen in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). On Matchday 17, the second-placed team in the table won 3:2 and could once again rely on the doubles team of Patrick Franziska/Cedric Nuytinck.
Already in the first leg Patrick Franziska and Cedric Nuytinck had made the difference for the 1. FC Saarbrücken TT, now on Friday evening they repeated this success. With the victory in the doubles against Kirill Gerassimenko and Cristian Pletea, the Saarbrücken duo ensured another 3:2 victory for FCS against SV Werder Bremen on the 17th matchday of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), through which the reigning runner-up is on the verge of making the play-off participation mathematically clear again. With 26:8 points, Saarbrücken is still in second place and now eight points ahead of fifth-placed TSV Bad Königshofen, who will play at ASV Grünwettersbach on Sunday. Bremen, on the other hand, also lost its fourth double in the second round and is 6th in the table with 16:18 points.
"This is how our coach Wang Zhi had imagined it," said Saarbrücken's Patrick Franziska after the match. "I was a bit skeptical, but fortunately everything then went as hoped. Personally, I'm very happy with my two matches. The doubles went really well. And in the singles against Kirill it was difficult as always. He has great quality, plays very strong and moves like a cat - I would like to move like that."
Mattias Falck leads Bremen into doubles
It was not until the doubles that the match became a clear affair. Franziska/Nuytinck needed just under 20 minutes to win the match against Gerassimenko/Pletea 3:0 (11:4, 11:6, 11:8) and thus decide the team match in favor of Saarbrücken. Franziska had already been successful in the singles before, beating Gerassimenko 3:0 (12:10, 11:7, 11:8) at position three. The other singles victory for the guests went to the account of Takuya Jin, who gave the duel with Marcelo Aguirre the decisive turn in the second set and won 3:1 (7:11, 11:9, 11:7, 11:8). For Werder, Mattias Falck again scored two singles victories: The doubles world champion beat Nuytinck 3-1 (13:11, 8:11, 12:10, 15:13) and Jin 3-1 (8:11, 11:7, 11:7, 11:7) in a close match, which now leaves him with a 23-6 singles record.
