ANOTHER COUP: BERGNEUSTADT ALSO BEATS MÜHLHAUSEN
In a season full of adversity, TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt scored the next big points to stay in the league. At the end of the 10th matchday of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), the 3-0 win against Post SV Mühlhausen was the second victory in a row.
Just seven days earlier, TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt had landed a surprise victory with a 3:2 win against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, followed by the next coup on the way to retaining their place in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) on Monday. With a 3-0 win against Post SV Mühlhausen, the team from Oberberg secured their second win in a row and consolidated eighth place in the table with 8:10 points. "It feels fantastic," said Bergneustadt's Adrien Rassenfosse. "The last few weeks have simply been great and have shown that we can hold our own against any team in the league."
For the visitors from Thuringia, on the other hand, it was a bitter setback in their fight to return to the play-offs. Mühlhausen had only won against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau on Saturday; with 10:8 points, the team is now fourth in the table and only just ahead of TSV Bad Königshofen, who are level on points. "Of course, we had expected more," admitted Mühlhausen's Steffen Mengel. "We shouldn't have gone into half-time 2-0 down, we have to chalk that up to ourselves. But we have to admit that Romain and Adrien did very well. If you lose the first two games like we did today, then you have to congratulate Bergneustadt on their deserved victory in the end."
Ruiz and Rassenfosse give Bergneustadt a 2:0 lead at the break
The key to Bergneustadt's victory was once again the line-up. The TTC has played with Benedikt Duda in the third position three times so far this season, winning twice in a row. This was also the case on Monday: Romain Ruiz put up a great fight against Ovidiu Ionescu and put Bergneustadt 3:2 (14:12, 6:11, 5:11, 13:11, 11:9) in front. Adrien Rassenfosse then also got the better of Steffen Mengel, and the Belgian's 3:1 (11:9, 5:11, 11:8, 11:9) win gave the hosts a perfect 2:0 lead at the break. Finally, Benedikt Duda also scored, securing a clear result in the team match with a 3:0 (11:8, 11:9, 11:5) win against Daniel Habesohn.
The next match in the TTBL is already scheduled for Tuesday, December 19. ASV Grünwettersbach will then host SV Werder Bremen at the end of the 9th matchday. The 11th matchday starts on Thursday with the match between TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and 1. FSV Mainz 05, with three more games still to come before Christmas. All matches will be broadcast live on Dyn.
