3:0 victory against Düsseldorf: Irvin Bertrand makes Mühlhausen cheer

On the 19th matchday of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), Post SV Mühlhausen and Borussia Düsseldorf met. Injuries on the side of the Düsseldorfers and a very strong Irvin Bertrand let the Post SV rejoice in their 3:0 victory.

At the beginning of the match between Mulhouse and Düsseldorf, no one could have imagined that it would be so clear in the end. The completely filled Post-Halle at the Kristanplatz could not get out of the amazement when Steffen Mengel converted the match point against Timo Boll and thus brought Post SV Mühlhausen a big step closer towards the play-offs.

Right at the beginning of the match, the team from Düsseldorf already had to accept the first bad news. After the first set of the opening singles between Daniel Habesohn and Kay Stumper, the player from Düsseldorf had to retire due to injury. The back problems of the 20-year-old made it impossible to continue playing without pain. Thus, coach Danny Heister would have had to go into the box for a possible final doubles match, since European Champion Dang Qui is currently at the Europe Top 16 in Montreux. But in the end it did not come to that.

Strong Irvin Bertrand cracks Anton Källberg

In the duel between Frenchman Irwin Bertrand and Düsseldorf's top player Anton Källberg, the roles were actually clearly distributed. Outsider Bertrand started well into the match, but could not use his two set points in the first set. In the second set, he made the better start with 6:1 points. After Källberg came threateningly close to 6:5, Bertrand took the timeout. The words whispered to him by Ionescu, who was standing in for Post SV coach Erik Schreyer, brought the desired success. The set went to Mulhouse 11:6 and the wiry left-hander also won the second set 11:9. Källberg was able to come back in the fourth set, but finally lost 11:3 in the deciding set.

Mengel with clear victory against Boll

The following singles match between Steffen Mengel and Timo Boll went very clearly in favor of Post SV. Mengel, who is currently in good form, did not let Boll take the lead in any set (11:4, 11:8, 11:5) and now increases his winning streak to nine victories in a row. Mengel was clearly satisfied after the match: "We are incredibly happy that we were able to win the match today. There is still a lot at stake for us and we are fighting for the play-offs. I can only give Irvin a big compliment."

Tomorrow, it continues directly for Post SV Mühlhausen. The team around coach Eric Schreyer has to travel to Mainz for the make-up match of the 18th matchday to the bottom of the table. The game starts at 15:00 in the sports hall of the Gymnasium Oberstadt.
