14 teams, one goal: Cup round of 16 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Seven tickets are still up for grabs for the quarterfinals of the German Table Tennis Cup. Eleven teams from the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL) and three clubs from the 2nd Bundesliga will fight in the coming days to make it to the next round.
Post SV Mühlhausen can sit back comfortably in the coming days and watch what the competition is doing: while the Thuringians already have their ticket for the quarterfinals in the German Table Tennis Cup in the bag, the other seven eighth-final matches are not scheduled until the next few days. They kick off on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with TV 1879 Hilpoltstein and Borussia Düsseldorf. "Unknown terrain" is Hilpoltstein, says Borussia coach Danny Heister before the duel with the second-division team. "Of course, we have to get into the quarterfinals. But arrogance would certainly not be appropriate. We'll travel a day before to familiarize ourselves with the conditions, and we'll take the match just as seriously as any Champions League game."
The action continues on Friday evening with five matches. Then, with TTC indeland Jülich (against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau) and TTC Fortuna Passau (against TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell), two more second division teams can look forward to a duel with a team from the Table Tennis Bundesliga. TTBL-internal encounters will take place on Friday from 7 p.m. between SV Werder Bremen and TTC Neu-Ulm, 1. FC Saarbrücken TT and TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt as well as between TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen and TSV Bad Königshofen. "We are looking forward to our first small final of this season, to a really tingling eighth-final duel," said TTF President Kristijan Pejinovic. "Our guys want to seize the opportunity. It's going to be a really tough game, but I'm confident we'll overcome the hurdle." Finally, the last quarterfinal ticket will be awarded on Saturday evening from 7 p.m. between ASV Grünwettersbach and 1. FSV Mainz 05.
The TTBL internal matches will be broadcast live on Spontent's channels on Twitch. You can follow all games in our Liveticker.
