1. FC Saarbrücken sets course for the future - Ionescu stays

1. FC Saarbrücken TT has extended the contract with Romanian international Eduard Ionescu on a long-term basis. The 20-year-old right-back, who played FCS into the CL final last season with a victory over African top star Quadri Aruna, will remain with FCS beyond the current season!

“Saarbrücken is and will remain my sporting home - I've been able to learn a lot so far and want to continue on my path towards the top 50 in the world at this club. I am very happy that I will be able to play matches at the highest level in the TTBL and Champions League in the coming years!” says Ionescu.

Nicolas Barrois, Team Manager of 1. FC Saarbrücken TT on the contract extension: “Edy was simply a stroke of luck for us, he fits in with us both as a person and as a player. After his great performances in recent weeks and months, Edy had other offers from all over Europe - fortunately he feels so comfortable with us that the negotiations were relatively quick and uncomplicated! We would like to give Edy a similar career path to Darko [Jorgic] and believe in his great potential.”

Eduard Ionescu is currently in absolute top form and has only lost one singles match in all competitions for 1 FC Saarbrücken TT. Alongside Cedric Meissner, the Olympian is therefore a permanent member of the TTBL team for next season.
