1. FC Saarbrücken is satisfied - "It can go on like this".
The 1st FC Saarbrücken TT has made up for its opening defeat in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). On the second match day, they defeated TTC Neu-Ulm surprisingly clearly 3:1 at home.
This was not to be expected. From the Neu-Ulm starting team of the first match day, only Lev Katsman traveled to Saarland. He was assisted by Nikita Artemenko and Maksim Grebnev, so TTC Neu-Ulm played with an all-Russian team at 1. FC Saarbrücken TT.
In the opening match of the second match day, Saarbrücken's Patrick Franziska faced Nikita Artemenko. Franziska had something to make up for after his two defeats on the first match day of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) - and he managed to do so. The world number 13 came into the match about tough, but ultimately won clearly with 3:0 (11:7, 11:4, 11:4) and brought the 1. FC Saarbrücken TT in the lead. "After the false start in Grenzau, where I played a significant role in us losing, this was a very important win for us," Franziska said. "It was important for us as a team and for me personally to go into the match with a broad chest and give everything. That's how it can continue."
Neu-Ulms Maksim Grebnev shortens the score
The 2:0 for the 1st FC Saarbrücken TT was provided by Darko Jorgic, who gave Lev Katsman no chance in the 3:0 (11:7, 11:3, 11:7). "At the beginning of the match I had problems with my serve, that went better in the second set," said Jorgic, who saw his teammate Tomas Polansky lose 2:3 (11:5, 4:11, 11:7, 10:12, 9:11) against Neu-Ulms Maksim Grebnev. The reigning German runner-up came very close to winning the match in this match, but then had to play a fourth game.
Patrick Franziska had to deal with Lev Katsman in his second appearance. The German clearly defeated the Russian 3:1 and secured the 3:1 win against TTC Neu-Ulm for the Saarlanders and thus the first double point win of the still young season.
"We are not satisfied with the first two singles," Neu-Ulm coach Dimitrij Mazunov said after the match. "The matches were gone too quickly and with too little resistance. However, I am more than satisfied with the third and fourth singles."
