1. FC Saarbrücken and Darko Jorgic to Part Ways After Seven Years
The 1. FC Saarbrücken Table Tennis and Darko Jorgic are going their separate ways after seven years together. The Slovenian national team player will be leaving the club and, according to current information, will continue his sporting career in Poland.
Jorgic joined 1. FC Saarbrücken Table Tennis ahead of the 2018/19 season as an ambitious young talent and developed in Saarbrücken into an internationally established top player. During his time with the club, he matured both athletically and personally, making the leap into the absolute world elite and reaching the Top 10 of the world rankings.
Over his seven years with FCS, Darko Jorgic became a true long-standing figure at the club and one of the defining faces of the most successful period in the club’s history. During this time, he has won a total of six titles with 1. FC Saarbrücken Table Tennis: three Champions League titles, two German Cups, and one German Championship. However, the shared journey is not yet over in sporting terms—the current and upcoming weeks are clearly focused on achieving further success.
Erwin Berg, Sporting Director of 1. FC Saarbrücken Table Tennis, commented: “Parting ways with Darko hurts us greatly, both from a sporting and a personal perspective. He shaped and significantly helped build our club over many years. Darko is and will always be a very welcome guest in our hall. Of course, we are sad about this loss, but now we have to look ahead and try to replace Darko in some way on a sporting level.”
Darko Jorgic also addressed personal words to the club: “I am extremely grateful to 1. FC Saarbrücken Table Tennis. I came to Saarbrücken as a very young player and was given the opportunity to develop step by step into an established player at the highest international level. That I was able to reach the Top 10 of the world rankings during this time is something very special for me.”
Looking at the current phase, Jorgic emphasized: “The journey here is not yet over from a sporting perspective. In the last and the coming weeks, my clear focus is on sporting success. I want to fully concentrate on FCS once again and give everything together with the team.”
He added regarding his decision: “I will never forget my time here, the successes, and the shared experiences. At the same time, I realized that the constant traveling between Slovenia, Germany, and WTT tournaments became too much in the long run. This decision was not made against the club, but for my family and for my further path on the WTT Tour and my major goal: LA 2028.”
